🌊 READ ME FIRST, THIS CARDSTOCK IS WAVE 1 (MY HONEST THOUGHTS) 🌊

Before you buy: this black core inkjet cardstock is genuinely new, one of the
first of its kind, and this is WAVE 1, the very first iteration. It is really
good right now, and I am not going to pretend it is flawless mass-produced paper
churned out by the millions. I am working hand in hand with my manufacturers to
get this paper right, batch by batch, and every Wave will get better.

Here is the honest deal in plain terms, so there are zero surprises:

• USE CASE: this is a premium cardstock, and it is built to give seriously
amazing results. The color it pulls is honestly insane. It is a little "needy"
though, so if your goal is cranking out proxies as fast as possible, this might
not be your paper, and a more general purpose cardstock will serve you better.
If you are in a rush and single-sided printing and sleeving, this stock will be perfect for you.

• DUPLEX PRINTING: because of the surface tackiness, give your printed fronts some
curing time (24 hours is ideal) before you run the sheet back through to print
the back side, so the second pass does not smear the front.

• OPACITY: this black core blocks nearly all light. It is not see-through. The only
way to catch any light is to press a bright flashlight right up against a sheet so
it is touching the paper, and even then it is just a little. For double-sided cards
and decks, you will not see any show-through.

• FEED: heavy stock, so REAR or manual feed only (a cassette tray or duplexer jams it).

• CUTTING: hand cutting and die cutting are perfect, it takes dies beautifully, and
the ink dries instantly. The one thing to know: let sheets CURE OVERNIGHT before
you sleeve them or press them onto a STICKY mat (Cricut, Silhouette), so the
surface tack fully settles, otherwise the mat can embed into it. Cure overnight
and use a low tack mat for the best results your electronic cutter can give
(though I am still not the biggest fan of this cardstock with electronic cutters).

• SMEARING: because it is thick stock, a little smearing can happen on some prints,
usually minor. I would rather you know than be surprised.

• PLAY: no varnish topcoat, so sleeve for shuffled play.

If you have ever printed cards the DIY way, you know the routine: print on
double-sided glossy photo paper, then feed it through a laminator for stiffness
and water resistance, and fight the bubbles, peeling, and wavy edges. This stock
ends that. It is already heavyweight, waterproof, and built to feel like a real
card, so you skip lamination completely. Print, cut, done.

Here is the other part nobody else can say: this is real BLACK CORE cardstock
that actually runs through a regular home inkjet. Almost every black or blue core
stock out there is laser or UV only. This one takes BOTH dye and pigment inkjet
ink (yes, the ET-8550 crowd, this means you), so you get the opaque-core, premium
card feel and snap without a laser printer or a factory order of 200.

🖨️ HOW TO PRINT (the settings that work)

1. Feed from the REAR tray or manual/flat feed only (heavy stock, see notes)
2. Set the media type to a semi-gloss photo paper setting. Want richer, more
saturated color? Bump it to a full-gloss photo setting.
3. Print your design, dye or pigment ink both work
4. PRINTING BOTH SIDES? Let the front cure first, ideally 24 hours, before you run
the sheet back through for the back side. The satin surface stays a little tacky
at first, and printing the back too soon can smear the front. Single-sided
printing skips this step.
5. The ink dries instantly, so you can handle and hand cut or die cut right away.
Before you SLEEVE or use a STICKY mat cutter, let the sheet cure OVERNIGHT so the
satin surface tack settles, then finish up

📝 HONEST NOTES (please read, I would rather be upfront)

• OPACITY: this is real black core, and it blocks nearly all light. It is not
see-through in normal use. The only time it shows anything is if you press a
bright flashlight directly against a sheet so it touches the paper, and even then
it is just a little. For double-sided cards and decks there is no show-through you
will notice, which is exactly why cored stock is the standard for playing cards
and tarot, and now you can print it at home.
• FEED: this is heavy stock. Use the rear or manual/flat feed. Running it through
a cassette tray or an auto duplexer will jam it. Keep bends minimal.
• SMEARING: because it is thick stock, you may see a little smearing on some prints.
It is usually minor, and I would rather tell you up front than have it surprise you.
• INK + CURING: the printed ink dries instantly and the surface is water resistant so you
can handle prints right away. The satin coat itself has a slight tackiness that
settles after curing, so I recommend letting sheets cure OVERNIGHT in a dry spot
before sleeving or sticky-mat cutting. Humidity and hand moisture can raise that
surface tack, it does NOT affect your printed image.
• CUTTING: hand cutting (trimmer, guillotine, scissors) and DIE cutting both work
beautifully, this stock takes dies great. The one thing to know: before you press
a sheet onto a STICKY cutting mat (Cricut, Silhouette), let it CURE OVERNIGHT first.
On an uncured sheet the mat can embed into the surface tack and bend or mark it on
peel. Cure overnight, use a LOW tack mat, and mat cutting works fine too.
• FINISH: the satin coating is water resistant but has no varnish topcoat, so for
shuffled play I recommend sleeving. Pro tip: if you play unsleeved, a little
fanning powder adds glide.
