Heavy, nubby alpaca-silk texture, finished with draping fringe that shifts with every step.

This crochet scarf is worked by hand from a blend of alpaca, silk, acrylic and polyamide into a heavy, richly textured wrap. It runs long and substantial - 25 cm wide and 196 cm in length. Draping fringe elements swing and shift as you move, giving the piece its grunge-toned, layered character.

WHAT GOES INTO IT

Eleven to fourteen hours, all of it by hand.
The body is 196 cm of crochet, row by row with a hook, and the fringe goes on after, one strand at a time.
Half the yarn is alpaca, the rest acrylic, silk and polyamide, all four are on the label.
One scarf, one dye lot - there is no second run to spread those hours across.

HOW IT FEELS

Alpaca makes up half the yarn. Alpaca fiber lacks the microscopic scales that make sheep wool itch, and it carries far less lanolin too. The base of this blend sits gentler against the skin than a classic wool scarf would.
Silk adds a little sheen and drape; acrylic and polyamide add body, giving the surface its heavier, textured grip rather than a slippery finish.
The overall hand is substantial and textured, true to the grunge character of the piece, not silky-smooth.
Most people find the texture settles in after the first wear or two.

I do not restock and I do not repeat a colourway - partly by choice, partly because the yarn came from one dye lot and that lot is finished.

CARE

Hand wash only, cool water, a wool detergent. No enzymes, no bleach, no softener.
Do not wring. Press the water out against the side of the basin, roll it in a towel, press again.
Dry flat, out of sun. Never hang it wet - the weight of the water pulls it long and it does not come back.
Alpaca rarely needs washing. Airing it overnight resets it.
Store folded, never on a hanger.
