Wrapped in tissue, boxed in kraft with a ribbon and a handwritten tag. Simple and plain, no seasonal paper. Can be sent straight to the recipient.

A vintage scarf ring in a choice of thirteen designs, each a single piece of gold or silver tone metal that a square silk scarf pulls through.

Every option is a single item, sold separately. All plated base metal, with glass stones or moulded faux pearl where noted. Option C is marked West Germany on the reverse, which dates it between 1954 and 1990. The rest are unsigned and made between roughly 1975 and 1995, which is a dealer's estimate based on construction rather than a mark: one-piece plated castings, soldered reverse fittings, and the open-ring slide format itself.

The scarf ring belonged to a particular way of dressing. Through the 1970s and 80s a square silk scarf went round the neck and through a metal ring rather than being knotted, and the ring did the work a brooch or a bow would otherwise do. They sold on card in department stores and by mail order, in enormous numbers and almost always unsigned, which is why so few of them carry a name. People have gone back to them for the same reason they bought them the first time, which is that a knot never sits the same way twice and a ring does.

OPTION A. WOVEN KNOT, SILVER TONE
Open interlaced knot, bright silver tone, fine linear texture running along the bands.
Condition: bright, no losses found. Light darkening in the recesses between the bands.

OPTION B. COMET PLUME, SILVER TONE
A curved crescent with a spray of five open tails falling below it. The most sculptural piece in the group and the one that reads largest against a scarf.
Condition: good, all five tails present and straight. Plating bright on the polished areas.

OPTION C. SCROLLED MEDALLION, GOLD TONE, MARKED WEST GERMANY
A polished domed centre worked with interlaced scrollwork, inside a petal and bead border with dark antiquing in the recesses. Marked West Germany on the reverse, so it was made between 1954 and 1990, most likely in the 1970s or 80s on the construction. West German costume work of this kind came largely out of the Pforzheim trade, which supplied half of Europe and signed almost none of it. The country mark is the only attribution it will ever have, and it is more than most pieces in this lot can offer. [00mm diameter]
Condition: good. Fine surface marks across the polished centre, visible under raking light rather than at arm's length. Antiquing intact in the border. Mark legible.

OPTION D. TRIPLE RINGS, GOLD TONE
Three plain rounded bands interlocking, high polish, no ornament. The plainest option and the easiest to wear.
Condition: bright with a clean polish. Light handling marks to the outer band.

OPTION E. RIBBED TWIST, SILVER TONE
A heavy ribbed coil in bright silver tone, ridges running across the twist.
Condition: good, ridges sharp. A small dark speck near the lower edge which lifts with a soft cloth.

OPTION F. ROSE WREATH, GOLD TONE
A ring of eleven cast roses, alternating large and small, each with a beaded centre.
Condition: good. All roses present, petals unbent. Plating even across the wreath.

OPTION G. CURB CHAIN AND FAUX PEARL, GOLD TONE
A large domed faux pearl set inside a cast curb chain surround. Very much of its decade.
Condition: chain surround bright and complete. The pearl carries fine surface marks and a slightly scratched sheen across the dome, visible in the photographs.

OPTION H. OVAL FAUX PEARL WITH STARS, GOLD TONE
An oval faux pearl cabochon in a gold tone frame with four small stars, each set with a clear stone, and ribbed panels between.
Condition: frame good, all four stones present. Fine surface marks to the pearl and a faint dulled patch to one side.

OPTION I. FILIGREE DISC, SILVER TONE
A domed disc built up in petal-shaped filigree with cut steel effect facets, dark antiqued ground, and a large domed clear cabochon at the centre.
Condition: good, filigree complete and no facets missing. The centre cabochon shows an iridescent play of colour, which is the coating on the stone rather than damage.

OPTION J. TWO TONE TEXTURED CIRCLE, GOLD AND SILVER
An open circle divided into textured segments alternating gold tone and silver tone, hammered finish. Reads modernist.
Condition: good. Both platings intact, texture crisp.

OPTION K. SQUARED SCROLL PANEL, GOLD AND BLACK
A cushion-shaped panel with a raised scrolling floral motif over a stippled black ground. Smallest piece in the group.
Condition: good. Scrollwork sharp, black ground even with no flaking found.

OPTION L. PALE PINK STONE CIRCLE, SILVER TONE
An open circle rimmed with pale amethyst coloured glass stones in claw cups, over a honeycomb-textured plate.
Condition: good. All stones appear present and none loose. Please check photo [00] for the full rim.

OPTION M. PINK AND CLEAR STONE CROWN, SILVER TONE
A crown shape in clear stones with two vertical bars of pink stones.
Condition: good, all stones present, none loose.

Every reverse is photographed. If you want a particular one measured before you buy, message me and I will do it the same day.
