ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Travelers run for cover as rain slashes down on the Tokaido road - many critics call this THE greatest rain picture ever printed. Hiroshige carved the downpour as sheets of parallel lines, a technique so bold it stunned European artists when Japan opened its borders. The bamboo grove behind fades into grey mist: you can almost hear this print.
