ABOUT THE ARTWORK
A full moon rises behind a white plum tree in bloom - Ito Jakuchu painted this in 1755, the year he retired from his family's grocery business to devote his life entirely to painting. The plum branches zigzag across the silk like lightning made of flowers. In Japan the first plum blossom of late winter means: the cold is almost over. A quiet, hopeful picture for a bedroom wall.
