What to know

Materials

Alpaca, Polyamide, Wool

A black cloud-soft crown, two crocheted cat ears, brushed to a fluffy halo.

WHAT IT IS

This beanie is crocheted from a blend of fluffy polyamide, wool and alpaca, shaped into a one-size brim with two stitched cat ears rising from the crown. Measured unfolded it comes to 25 cm long by 25 cm wide (9.8 x 9.8 in). The brim folds up or down, so you can adjust exactly how much ear shows. The polyamide is what gives the surface its brushed, fluffy hand; the wool and alpaca sit underneath, holding the shape.

WHY IT COSTS WHAT IT COSTS

Every cat ear beanie is crocheted by hand, one stitch at a time, from brim to the tip of both ears.
Shaping two symmetrical ears onto a curved crown takes longer than a flat panel. It is worked in the round, with increases and decreases counted row by row, so the pair comes out matching.
Half the yarn here is a fluffy polyamide, worked for its texture, not to cut cost; keeping it from swallowing the shaping underneath takes a steady hand.
This is not pulled off a machine in a run - it is made one hat at a time, by one person, in Wroclaw.

HOW IT FEELS

The crown is brushed to a soft halo, the part your hand meets first when you pull it on.
Underneath, the wool and alpaca give it body, so the beanie holds its shape instead of collapsing into a floppy dome.
It sits light on the head rather than heavy, warm without pressing down.
Expect a little shedding in the first wears while the brushed fibres settle - a light shake sorts it.

MATERIALS

- 50% polyamide
- 30% wool
- 20% alpaca

I print the full split, half fluff fibre and half wool and alpaca. The polyamide is doing real work here - it is what gives the crown its texture. You should know exactly what is on your head before you buy it.

CERTIFICATION

I cannot show you a certificate for this piece.
My yarn shelf is not a record of which ball went into which piece, so any certificate number here would invite you to assume it covers the thing in your hands, and I do not know that it does.
No animal-welfare standard covers any yarn I use. Not one. I would rather write that plainly than leave a gap you might fill in generously.
What you can check is the split above. It is printed in full, synthetic and natural side by side.

SIZE

- Length: 25 (9.8 in)
- Width: 25 cm (9.8 in) (measured unfolded; the folded brim is adjustable).

MADE ONE AT A TIME

I make these individually rather than in a run, so the colours change with the yarn I have.

CARE

Hand wash only, lukewarm, pH-neutral wool detergent.
Squeeze gently, like kneading dough. Do not wring, twist or pull.
Dry flat on a towel, away from sun and radiators.
Brushed yarn sheds a little for the first week or two. That is the halo settling, not a fault. Shake it out and it stops.
If small bobbles appear where it rubs, lift them with a knitwear comb - never a razor.
Store folded and clean. Moths go for skin oils, not for the fibre, so put it away washed. Cedar in the drawer, not mothballs.
Spot clean the fur rather than soaking it. Once dry, brush the pile back up with a soft brush or a wide-tooth comb - it flattens when wet and it comes back.
No heat, no tumble dryer. Heat is the one thing faux fur does not survive.

ORDER INFO

MADE TO ORDER? No. This one exists. It is finished, photographed and in my hands. It ships as it is.

PROCESSING
I pack and post within 1-2 business days, Monday to Friday.

SHIPPING FROM POLAND
Sent from Wroclaw, tracked, every parcel. Inside the EU there are no customs charges and nothing is collected at the door.

RETURNS
30 days from delivery. Not the 14 the law asks of me - 30.
Send it back unworn and I refund the item in full. Return postage is yours unless it arrived damaged or not as described, in which case it is mine.
A one-off piece is still a returnable piece. I would rather it came back than sat in a drawer.

QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU BUY
Message me. If you want a photo of it next to a tape measure, or held against a coat you already own, ask and I will send one. More information can be found https://zaikalabel.com/
