Before there was chalk, there was soapstone, a very soft natural kind of stone that, when high in talc content, draws and works much like chalk. CHOOSE PACKAGE SIZE TO RIGHT OF PHOTOS. These pure soapstone chalk pieces have been cut to be cylindrical and 5 inches long and can be used for most uses the same as chalk, on blackboards, on slate, etc. (Soapstone chalk pairs nicely with our natural slate boards and blackboards: https://www.etsy.com/shop/EvasFeathers?ref=hdr_shop_menu&search_query=slate .) Welders have long preferred soapstone chalk due to its ability to accept intense heat without burning. To erase the white soapstone chalk marks, use chalk erasers or a damp rag. Also similar to chalk, this soapstone will tend to break if dropped, but they are less dusty than regular chalk. The color ranges from almost white to light grey. Since they are natural soapstone, there will be slight variations in coloration. We will do our best to pack them so they remain intact but occasionally one might crack in transit. Soapstone chalk can go a long time with minimal loss of material so soapstone chalk pieces will last at least as long as chalk. These soapstone chalks are a fun blast from the past from before artificial chemicals and machines. Enjoy nature's own natural chalk.
