🎨 DEEP IN THE LOTUS POND
Set of 2 Printable Botanical Artworks

Deep in the Lotus Pond is a set of two high-resolution printable artworks created from my original botanical eco-printed silk artwork.

The set includes one square composition and one vertical composition. They come from the same original textile artwork and can be displayed together or separately.

This is an instant digital download. No physical artwork or frame will be shipped.

💚⭐️💚 THE STORY BEHIND THE ARTWORK

I once met a lady from southern China at a local market. As we talked, she told me about the large lotus pond near her home, where she went for a walk every evening.
I asked if she could see the lotus flowers. She replied, “The lotus flowers are deep in the pond.”
That simple sentence stayed with me and opened up an entire landscape in my imagination.

I have always loved lotus flowers—their colors and graceful forms, their broad leaves, and the stillness of a lotus pond. I began to wonder what might be found deep within it: overlapping leaves, lotus flowers rising gently above the water, newly formed buds, and aquatic plants moving beneath the surface.
I wanted to create that imagined landscape on silk.

To give the composition greater depth, I worked with three groups of lotus leaves. Some were used in their natural state, while the others were treated separately in madder root and onion skin dye baths. This produced three different colors of botanical imprints.

Lotus petals naturally contain very little color, so I treated them in the same two dye baths. The warm orange-red impressions came from madder root, while the deep yellow-green tones came from onion skins.

For the background, I blended extracts from three natural dyes to create layers of blue-green reminiscent of pond water.

The main blooming lotus is placed in the lower half of the composition, drawing the eye downward and giving the pond a greater sense of openness. Another lotus flower is partly hidden among the leaves, while a young bud rests between the reeds and lotus foliage. Water plants and small wildflowers move gently through the scene, bringing life to its quiet atmosphere.
