IMPACT, MECHANISM, SCALE — IN THAT ORDER

A ticket description is not an accomplishment.

Weak: "Worked on improving the performance of the checkout service."

Better: "Cut p95 checkout latency from 1.8s to 340ms by replacing N+1 queries
with a batched loader, across ~40k orders a day."

Better: "Migrated 12 services from EC2 to ECS with Terraform, cutting monthly
cloud spend 38% and deploy time from 25 to 4 minutes."

Numbers you already have: latency, throughput, error rate, uptime, build and
deploy time, cloud spend, test coverage, data volume, users, services owned,
team size, code review turnaround.

IF YOU HAVE NO PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE YET

The junior layout puts projects above employment, because that is where a
reviewer needs to find them. What separates a project that counts from one that
gets skipped:

· It solves a real problem for a real person, even if that person is you. A
tutorial clone reads as a tutorial clone.
· It is deployed and reachable, or the README shows it running. A link a
reviewer can click is worth three they cannot.
· Something about it was genuinely hard, and you can say what — and what broke.
That question comes up in every interview.
· It has one fact attached: users, data size, that it is in production.

Non-technical jobs stay on the page, framed for their transferable part. A
support role is customer empathy and debugging under pressure, and it is worth
saying so.

BUILT TO GET THROUGH THE FILTER

Four structural choices do the work, and none are visible to the human reading
your resume:

· Single column. Two columns get read straight across, so your sentences
interleave into nonsense.
· Contact details — and your GitHub link — in the body, not the page header.
Many systems never read the header region at all.
· Dates on a tab stop, not in a table. Table cells get flattened into one
unreadable string.
· Real bullet list formatting. A typed bullet character is a symbol; a list is
structure, and structure is what gets read.

No tables, no text boxes, no icons, no skill rating bars. A bar claiming you are
80% at Python returns no text at all to the thing reading your file, and tells a
human nothing either.

1. Open in Microsoft Word, or upload to Google Docs (File → Open → Upload).
Also opens in Pages and LibreOffice.
2. Replace the grey italic prompts with your own details.
3. Delete any section that doesn't apply, then save as PDF.

Is the junior version included, or separate?

One page or two?
One under about eight years. The experienced layout is built to hold two without
padding when you genuinely need it.

Should I put a skills bar chart on it?
No, and the guide explains why.

Do I need Microsoft Word?
No. Google Docs opens and edits them for free, and so do Pages and LibreOffice.

Will this guarantee me an interview?
No honest seller can promise that. What it removes are the structural reasons a
strong engineer gets filtered out before a human reads anything.

Can I resell or share these?
