DATA ANALYST ATS RESUME — two layouts, a keyword list and a Start Here guide

Analyst resumes fail in a way that is almost funny given the job: they present data with no interpretation. Rows of tools, a list of dashboards built, and nothing about what anybody did differently afterwards.

These files are built around one question, asked of every bullet: so what? If a line does not end in a decision, a number that moved, or time given back to someone, it is a line about software — and everyone applying has the same software.

Instant download. Editable in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Pages or LibreOffice. No design app, no subscription.

WHAT YOU GET — 4 FILES

1. DATA ANALYST (.docx) — experienced layout, one to two pages
Summary, a grouped technical skills block (language, warehouse, pipeline, BI, statistics), experience, an optional projects section, education and certifications. Bullet prompts ask for the decision your analysis changed, one automation with hours saved, and one on data quality.

2. JUNIOR AND CAREER CHANGE (.docx) — one page
Projects sit above employment, with links. Prompts to pull the analysis out of the job you already have — almost every job contains some, and almost every career changer leaves it out. A skills block that is honest about level, and courses with dates rather than hidden at the bottom.

3. START HERE GUIDE (.pdf)
Which file is yours. Six groups of analytics keywords. The near-duplicate strings that cost people matches — Postgres and PostgreSQL, Power BI and PowerBI, A/B testing and split testing. Weak and stronger bullets side by side. And two things specific to this job.

4. PLAIN TEXT VERSION (.txt)
For application portals that strip formatting or ask you to paste into a box.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
BE EXACT ABOUT YOUR SQL

"SQL" covers everything from SELECT * to window functions over billions of rows, and interviewers know it — which is why almost every analyst interview opens with a SQL test. Writing "SQL (joins, window functions, CTEs, query optimisation)" costs one line and tells the truth in advance. If you cannot write a window function yet, do not list one; you will be asked in the first twenty minutes.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
WHY IT PARSES

Four things are structural, and none are visible to the human reading your resume:

• Single column — two columns get read straight across, so your sentences interleave into nonsense
• Contact details in the body, not the page header — many systems never read the header at all, and that includes your GitHub link
• Dates on a tab stop, not in a table — table cells get flattened into one unreadable string
• Real bullet list formatting — a typed • is a symbol; a list is structure

No tables, no text boxes, no icons, no skill rating bars. A bar claiming you are 80% at SQL returns no text at all to the parser.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
WHO IT IS FOR

Analysts applying and hearing nothing. Bootcamp graduates and self-taught analysts. People already doing the work under another title — ops, finance, marketing, support. Analysts moving up to senior. Business analysts and BI analysts, with the skills groups swapped for their postings.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
HONEST LIMITS — please read before buying

• No template can guarantee an interview. What this removes are the structural reasons a strong analyst gets filtered out before a human reads anything.
• You write the content. The prompts tell you exactly what to put where, but the findings have to be yours.
• It is not a SQL course and not interview preparation.
• It is not editable in Canva — these are ordinary Word files, which is precisely why they behave predictably.
