THE PART MOST PACKS SKIP

• THE QUESTIONS TO ASK THEM
"Do you have any questions for us?" is the most wasted moment in the process. Fifteen good ones, grouped, plus the one worth saving for last: "Is there anything about my experience you would like me to expand on?" — it lets you fix a doubt while you are still in the room.

• THE SALARY CONVERSATION
What to say when they ask your expectations before you know the job. What to say when they ask what you earn now — including that in several countries and US states they may not legally ask. And what to say when the offer is below your range, followed by the most useful instruction in the pack: then stop talking.

• THE TWENTY-FOUR HOURS AFTER
Write down every question you were asked while you remember. Send the thank-you the same day, under 120 words. Rewrite the two answers you disliked straight back into the builder. Chase once, politely, and only once.
