Introducing "The Archer", taken from Johann Bode's Uranographia of 1801, the last and grandest of the celestial atlases drawn while constellations were still pictures. Sagittarius stands at full draw, bearded and crowned, his arrow laid along the ecliptic exactly where the engravers cut it, with the Milky Way rising behind him in fine stipple and the coordinate grid the astronomers of the day actually worked from ruled across the whole sky. The plate has been cleaned rather than redrawn: the paper has been evened out and the scan's border apparatus removed, while every engraved line, every star and the great lettered name itself are untouched.

The map carries on around the mug, so turning it in your hands follows the ecliptic on toward Scorpius the way the original plate reads. Available in 11 oz and 15 oz, each size fitted to its own print area rather than scaled to fit.
