Highlights
HANDMADE PRICING CALCULATOR & CRAFT BUSINESS TRACKER — Excel and Google Sheets, with a worked example already inside
Almost every maker has one product that feels like the flagship and is quietly the worst-paid hour of the week. There is no way to know which one without doing the arithmetic, and the arithmetic is more than materials times two.
This file does it properly: every material to four decimal places, your own hour at a rate you decide, a year of overheads spread across your real making hours, and the marketplace's cut taken off the end.
IT ARRIVES FILLED IN
Eight materials, five products and twenty-eight recipe lines. One of the five loses money on every sale — on purpose, because that is what this is for. Nothing is blank, so you can see how every column behaves before you touch it.
THE SEVEN TABS
Start Here — what each tab does, the colour rules, and the honest limits.
Setup — what an hour of making is worth, a year of overheads, your marketplace's real fee rates, and two pricing multipliers.
Materials — 100 rows. What you paid and how much you got; the cost of one unit is worked out for you.
Recipes — 300 rows. What goes into what, and how much of it.
Products — 50 rows. Cost, wholesale, suggested retail, fees, margin, and what it really pays you an hour.
Fee Check — one sale followed all the way down to what survives.
Price List — wholesale, retail and your price on a clean page, ready to send a shop.
RECIPES ARE THE DIFFERENCE
Most pricing calculators ask for a materials cost and believe whatever you type. This one asks what actually goes in: 0.9 metres of linen, one zip, one label, one box. The cost comes from what you paid.
So when a supplier puts linen up ten per cent, you change one number on the Materials tab and every product that uses linen re-prices itself. Nothing is forgotten, because nothing was remembered by hand.
THE COLUMN THAT SETTLES ARGUMENTS
The last column on the Products tab is what a product really pays you for an hour of your time, once fees, materials, packaging and overhead are gone. In the worked example the apron pays $12.15 an hour against a $22 target and loses $21.34 a sale. The key fob, which nobody thinks about, pays $41.76.
Margin is a percentage and percentages are easy to feel good about. Pay per hour is the number that decides whether something is worth making.
ANY MARKETPLACE, ANY CURRENCY
Listing fee, transaction percentage, payment processing and its fixed part, and the advertising rate you really average — all typed by you. Nothing is hard-coded to one platform or one country.
TWO COPIES IN THE DOWNLOAD
One workbook has the worked example filled in, so you can see what every column expects before you touch anything. The second is the same file completely blank — same tabs, same formulas, same charts — ready for your own numbers from the first row. Start on whichever suits you.
WORKS WITH
Microsoft Excel 2016 or newer, Windows or Mac. Google Sheets — upload and open with Sheets; every formula works, the dropdowns look a little different, the print settings do not carry across. LibreOffice. No macros, so nothing to enable.
HONEST LIMITS — please read before buying
- It prices, it does not sell. A price the numbers support is not automatically a price a buyer will pay. If nobody buys at the honest price, the answer is usually the making time or the design.
- Fees are the ones you type. Offsite ads at 12 or 15 per cent change every figure, so put your true average in.
- No stock tracking. It tells you what things cost and what they earn, not what is on the shelf.
- Wholesale is a multiplier, not a strategy. Two times cost is a starting point.
- Building the recipes takes about an hour. That is the honest cost of the accuracy; after that it is minutes a month.
- Capacity: 50 products, 100 materials, 300 recipe lines.
