THE TWO NUMBERS THAT HURT

Delivered and not invoiced, in amber. That is work you have finished and not asked to be paid for, and it is the most common way creators lose money. In the worked example it is $1,800.

FEE PER HOUR, HONESTLY

Log the concept, the filming, the reshoot because the light went, the edit, the caption and the three rounds of feedback. A fee per hour built on filming time alone is a number that lies to you — and it is why so many creators feel busy and broke at once. In the example, a $320 reel that honestly takes six hours pays $53.33 an hour against a $60 target, before a single revision.
