Highlights
A vintage structured handbag, likely dating from the 1950s to 1960s, made in pale beige leather with the distinctive raised quill pattern associated with ostrich skin. The characteristic quill follicles have a flattened, lower-profile finish rather than the strongly raised quills seen on some ostrich leather.
Based on the natural variation in the quill follicles, grain and construction, this appears to be genuine ostrich leather, although the bag is unmarked and the material cannot be authenticated.
The bag has a classic mid-century shape with a gently curved top, long double handles and a gold-tone metal frame and clasp. The clasp is in good working order and closes securely.
Inside, the bag opens into two main fabric-lined compartments divided by the central frame section.
Condition: Fair vintage condition with substantial signs of age and use. There is visible surface wear throughout, particularly around the corners and edges, as well as cracking and wear to the finish on the handles. The lining shows age-related wear and has some pen marks. The interior pocket zipper is broken/non-functional. The main metal frame and closure work properly, and the bag remains structurally sound.
