WHO WROTE IT

I run a licensed landscaping, drainage and hardscaping company in Waxhaw, Union County, North Carolina. Most rainy days you will find me standing in somebody's back yard working out where the water is coming from. Everything here comes from that work.

Most drainage advice online is written for shrink-swell clay soils. Piedmont clay is kaolinite - it behaves differently, and generic advice gets it wrong. This guide is written for the ground we actually have here.
