Scindapsus pictus ‘Exotica’ Live Plant | Silver Satin Pothos | Large Leaf Variegated Vine

SCINDAPSUS PICTUS ‘EXOTICA’
Silver Satin Pothos

BROAD SILVER LEAVES WITH A SATIN FINISH

Scindapsus pictus ‘Exotica’ is a striking silver-foliage aroid vine with broad, velvety leaves washed in metallic silver around a deep green central vein. Often sold under the common name Silver Satin Pothos, it belongs to Scindapsus rather than Epipremnum, the genus that includes Golden Pothos. Its satin-finished pattern and substantial foliage give it a distinctive character of its own.

Our photographs show the Exotica form offered here: broad, slightly asymmetrical heart-shaped leaves, generous silver coverage, dark green midrib contrast and substantial vining growth. Each leaf contributes a different balance of silver and green, bringing both bold pattern and finer detail to the developing specimen.

SILVER ON SATIN

The attraction is as much about the surface as the color. Silver markings sit against deeper green tissue with a soft, satin-like finish, creating a different impression from the glossy shine of many tropical vines. Broad pale areas catch the light while the central green line preserves the shape and direction of the blade.

Closer inspection reveals smaller green interruptions within the silver, variations along the margins and the gently uneven proportions of individual leaves. When foliage overlaps, those pale and dark areas create a layered composition without losing the outline of each heart-shaped blade.

The effect is especially beautiful against warm wood, natural stone or darker foliage. A simple background lets the silver become luminous; a mixed collection reveals how different its broad, soft-looking leaves are from narrow, polished or finely divided forms.

A VINE WITH TWO BEAUTIFUL EXPRESSIONS

Allowed to trail, Exotica creates a substantial cascade in which each silver leaf has enough presence to be appreciated individually. An elevated planter or shelf gives the stems room to descend naturally, building a display of overlapping hearts and alternating green and silver.

Given a suitable pole or board, the vine can instead be trained upward. Small attachment roots develop along the stem, reflecting its natural climbing habit. Vertical support separates the foliage and offers a different view of the same plant, emphasizing the individual blades rather than the flowing outline.

Guide stems gently as they develop, or prune selectively to maintain your preferred balance of length and fullness. Healthy node-bearing stem cuttings can be rooted to continue an established plant.

CARE

Light: Bright, indirect light suits healthy growth and a balanced display. Protect the foliage from prolonged harsh direct sun.

Water: Water thoroughly when the upper portion of the potting mix has dried, then let excess water drain. Check the medium rather than leaving the root zone continuously wet.

Soil: Use a loose, airy, well-draining tropical or aroid-style mix in a container with drainage.

Temperature and humidity: Maintain comfortable indoor warmth, protected from cold drafts and frost. Moderate humidity and gentle airflow support attractive growth.

Growth and training: Allow vines to trail naturally, or provide a pole, board or other suitable support. Leave space around emerging leaves and adjust ties as stems develop.

Feeding: Use a balanced houseplant fertilizer during active growth according to the product label.

YOUR SELECTION

Choose your preferred size from the dropdown. Each purchase is for one live, rooted Scindapsus pictus ‘Exotica’ in its nursery pot, corresponding to the selected option. Our photographs represent the plants offered, each with its own leaf arrangement and silver pattern.

Unpack promptly, check the growing medium and settle your plant into suitable indirect light. Allow time to acclimate before repotting or making major environmental changes.

Scindapsus contains insoluble calcium oxalates. Keep out of reach of pets and small children who may chew or ingest foliage.
