Grow a classic garden slicer from a packet of 25 Marketmore Cucumber seeds. The botanical species is Cucumis sativus. The original Marketmore is documented as a Cornell-bred slicing cucumber; this packet is labelled Marketmore without a numbered selection.

Choose a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. Direct sow after frost risk has passed and the soil has warmed to about 65°F (18°C), placing seeds around 1 inch (2.5 cm) deep. Keep the seedbed evenly moist while seedlings establish. Thin or space plants to provide good airflow and room for the vines. In smaller gardens, train the vines on a sturdy trellis or fence; they may also spread across an open bed.

Cucumbers have shallow roots and benefit from steady moisture, especially while flowering and setting fruit. The original Marketmore is monoecious, with separate male and female flowers, so pollinator visits support fruit development. Avoid disturbing visiting bees during bloom.

Harvest slicing cucumbers while they are green, firm, and tender, before the seeds become hard. Check the vines frequently because the fruits can enlarge quickly. Remove over-mature yellowing fruit and handle the vines gently when picking. Growing and harvest timing vary with soil temperature, weather, pollination, and garden care.

You will receive one labelled packet containing 25 Marketmore Cucumber seeds. Seeds only; live plants and harvested cucumbers are not included. Keep the packet labelled, cool, and dry until sowing.
