"Long live the weeds and the wilderness yet." Gerard Manley Hopkins, writing in defense of everything untidy — the verge, the ditch, the corner of the garden nobody got to.

Thistle, teasel, cow parsley and seeding dandelion drawn in ink navy line work, with gold caught at the seed heads. Printed on a warm cream ground rather than stark white. Dense enough to hold a wall from across the room, fine enough to reward looking closely.

The line comes from "Inversnaid," written in 1881 after Hopkins spent an afternoon beside a burn in the Scottish Highlands. He published almost nothing in his lifetime. The poem first appeared in 1918, twenty-nine years after his death, when a friend finally brought the manuscripts to a publisher.
