Dinner is ready. Unfortunately, so is the fire department.

A skeleton stands over a barbecue sending flames several feet into the air while the witch beside him calmly enjoys a cocktail and watches dinner move well past the recommended cooking temperature.

The skeleton appears completely committed to the grill. Dressed in a cream summer suit, straw hat and sunglasses, he holds the barbecue tongs in one hand and a bottle in the other as sausages, vegetables and meat disappear beneath a wall of flames.

The witch seems less concerned. She stands beside the table in a fitted black dress and pointed hat, drink in hand, looking as though this is exactly the kind of dinner party she expected.

The black cat has chosen the safest position in the scene: directly underneath the barbecue.

That combination gives “DINNER'S READY” its deadpan punch line. The food may be technically ready, but nobody is asking how ready.
