Highlights
A handwoven market basket bag from Tanzania, in warm brown. Roomy, sturdy, and made by hand for everyday errands, the market, or a weekend away.
Handwoven by a collective of women in Iringa, Tanzania, led by Catherine Shembilu of Vikapu Bomba. Many of the weavers are widows, and this bag started life as a traditional grain basket, redesigned to be something you'd actually carry. Every purchase supports a woman's daily work. We're selling the culture, not just the bag.
FEATURES
- Woven from milulu grass, a reed-like grass gathered along the rivers of Tanzania's southern highlands and dried in the sun
- Large brown handwoven basket tote, built for daily carry
- Sturdy enough for groceries, books, or a full day out
- Black leather handles; leather label and charm
- The maker's own label is sewn in, alongside ours
SIZE (approximate): 13.4 in wide x 11 in tall x 3.9 in deep (34 x 28 x 10 cm). Height does not include handles or straps.
CARE: Spot clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Keep out of prolonged direct sun and standing water to protect the natural fiber and color. Store stuffed with tissue to help it hold its shape between wears.
