What does a mile really cost you? This one-page Excel sheet tells you.

Type in your monthly fixed costs (truck payment, insurance, plates, phone and ELD), your typical miles and deadhead, your fuel price and MPG, what you pay yourself, and a maintenance reserve. The Quick Sheet gives you:

- Fixed cost per day, rolling or not
- Fixed overhead per total mile
- Total cost per total mile, deadhead included

HOW IT WORKS
1. Replace the blue cells in section 1 with your real monthly fixed costs.
2. Enter your typical miles and deadhead, then fuel, MPG, pay, maintenance reserve, and target margin.
3. Read your numbers in section 4. Test a load in section 5.
A red CHECK means a blue cell needs fixing; the status line under that section says what.

NOT INCLUDED
Tolls, lumpers, factoring or quick-pay fees, and taxes are not in the per-mile cost. Section 5 adds tolls and other trip costs for one load. The Load Profit Go / No-Go Calculator handles tolls, other trip costs and factoring per load and calls each load GO, CAUTION or NO-GO.

COMPATIBILITY AND LIMITATIONS
Microsoft Excel 2021 or Microsoft 365 desktop is recommended. No macros, add-ins or live rate feeds. Google Sheets compatibility is not guaranteed.
