Seller's description

Specifications

May include: A dark blue wooden bird figurine standing on a thin metal rod and a circular base. The bird features painted green and white circular patterns on its body and base, with a tail made of thin wires ending in small dark blue spheres.

A wonderfully unusual Swedish wooden bird sculpture from Hemslöjden Borås, dating to the 1950s.

Hand-painted in deep blue with green and gold geometric decoration, the stylised bird stands on a slender metal rod above a matching painted wooden base. Its most distinctive feature is the extraordinary tail, formed from fine flexible wires tipped with painted wooden balls in different sizes.

The wire construction allows the tail elements to move gently, giving the sculpture a playful kinetic quality and a distinctly mid-century appearance. The combination of traditional Swedish craft with an almost atomic-age silhouette makes this a particularly characterful piece of Scandinavian folk design.

The original painted surface shows its age and history beautifully, with areas of wear and patina throughout.
