See exactly when you will be debt-free, and how much interest each strategy saves.

The Dwell Logic Debt Snowball & Avalanche Payoff Calculator builds a month-by-month payoff plan for up to 20 debts and compares the Snowball method, the Avalanche method and your own custom order against paying minimums only. It handles credit cards, lines of credit, car loans, student loans, personal loans and mortgages, including Canadian semi-annual mortgage compounding, which most calculators get wrong.

Clean charcoal-and-white design with a proper dashboard. Live formulas. No macros.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

One Excel workbook (.xlsx) with six tabs:

• Instructions: quick start, cell legend, compounding guide and assumptions
• Debts: up to 20 debts with name, type, balance, APR, minimum payment and compounding method (monthly, daily, Canadian semi-annual mortgage, or effective annual). Shows each debt's true monthly rate, first-month interest, a payment check, and its Snowball and Avalanche rank
• Strategy: choose Snowball, Avalanche or Custom; enter your extra monthly payment, first payment date and up to 12 one-time lump sums (tax refund, bonus); see the resulting payoff order
• Schedule: 360-month amortisation of every debt under your chosen strategy: balance, payment, interest, minimum and extra for each debt, which debt receives the extra each month, payoff month and date per debt
• Comparison: Snowball vs Avalanche vs minimums only, each calculated in full in parallel: months to debt-free, debt-free date, total interest, total paid, interest and months saved; plus payoff month by debt under every strategy
• Dashboard: 12 key numbers on dark tiles (total debt, debt-free date, months and interest saved, first debt to clear), a plain-English summary and four live charts (balance by debt month by month, total balance by strategy, principal vs interest each month, total interest by strategy). The workbook opens on this tab.

WHO IT'S FOR

• Anyone with two or more debts who wants a realistic, dated payoff plan
• Canadians with a mortgage in the mix (semi-annual compounding handled correctly)
• US, UK and EU users: choose your compounding method and currency symbol
• Couples working through a shared plan, budget coaches and financial-literacy educators

HOW IT WORKS

1. List your debts on the Debts tab (shaded cells only).
2. Pick a strategy and enter your extra monthly payment on the Strategy tab.
3. Open the Schedule to see every month, the Comparison to see what each strategy saves, and the Dashboard to watch the balance fall.

When a debt is paid off, its minimum payment automatically rolls into the next debt in the same month: the total you pay each month stays constant until you are debt-free. There are no circular references, so the file opens cleanly in every spreadsheet program.

WORKS WITH YOUR CURRENCY

Enter $, £ or € once. The calculator works unchanged for CAD, USD, GBP and EUR.

COMPATIBILITY

Microsoft Excel 2010 or later (Windows and Mac), Google Sheets (upload and open), LibreOffice Calc and Apple Numbers. No macros.

FAQ

Is this an instant download? Yes. Etsy emails the download link as soon as payment clears; you can also download from your Purchases page.

Does it work in Google Sheets? Yes. Upload to Google Drive and open with Google Sheets. The file contains about 80,000 formulas; Google Sheets handles it, but allow a few seconds for the first calculation.

Which compounding should I choose? Monthly for most loans and lines of credit; Daily for credit cards; Semi-annual (CAD mortgage) for any Canadian mortgage; Effective annual when the rate is quoted as an EAR/AER (common on UK cards). The Instructions tab explains each.

What if my minimum payment is less than the interest? The Debts tab flags it. That debt grows until the extra payment reaches it in your chosen order, exactly what happens in real life.

Can I model a lump sum? Yes: up to 12 one-time amounts by month number, applied on top of the regular extra payment.

What is the maximum term? 360 months (30 years). Debts not cleared by then show "360+".

Can I get a refund? Digital files cannot be returned once downloaded, in line with Etsy policy. If something does not work as described, message us and we will fix it or make it right.
