Beautiful hand made mounted print of Mars from 1918
We collect 19th and early 20th century astronomy books and photograph the plates and engravings, preserving the books' integrity for future generations. These images are then restored and presented in circular black mounts to create contemporary pieces that capture humanity's wonder of the heavens. Print Science preserves the extraordinary books these illustrations come from, whilst making the illustrations and photographs accessible to everyone.
The images are shot with a Nikon D810 using polarised light to reproduce the images at the best possible quality. The images are printed with pigment ink onto Hahnemühle Fine Art Pearl 285gsm paper. We use conservation black-core* laser cut mounts and archival tape throughout.
Images are sold unframed.
We have two sizes:
Small - 5 x 5" edge to edge of the mount
Large - 10 x 10" edge to edge of the mount
Each piece is presented in a crystal clear sleeve, wrapped in black tissue and posted in a black heavy-duty recycled cardboard envelope.
*The chemically purified core and backing have had all potentially harmful substances extracted. Along with this the black core board of 1500 micron (1.5mm) means they are Fine Art Guild Framing Level - Commended/Conservation.
