💚 The Story Behind the Design

The idea for this scarf began with a pearl brooch I made during a craft workshop.

I wanted to create a scarf that could be worn beautifully on its own, but would also leave a quiet space for the brooch. Too many botanical motifs would compete with it, while a completely plain scarf would feel less expressive to me. So I placed the botanical composition on one part of the silk and deliberately left the other part open.

The rich, deep background carries a warm brown undertone that complements many skin tones. I created this saturated color by allowing a fruit-peel dye bath to oxidize in the air for a long time.

Against the dark background, small eucalyptus leaves produced vivid red prints, bringing warmth and brightness to the design. Their fine, delicate shapes contrast with the soft, rounded peony, creating a composition that feels elegant and expressive.

Depending on how it is folded, the scarf can reveal its botanical design or show more of the quiet, dark background. It can be worn alone or paired with a favorite brooch, allowing the jewelry to become part of the composition.

A Place for a Pearl can be worn as an elegant silk scarf or displayed as a botanical textile artwork.

Gently hand wash separately in cool water with a pH-neutral detergent. Do not soak or bleach. Dry in the shade and iron on a silk setting if needed. Store away from direct sunlight.
