DESCRIPTION
Joan of Arc by John Everett Millais, 1865, printed as a Pre-Raphaelite portrait poster on 240gsm matte paper. Sizes A5 to A1 and 12x16 to 24x36 inches, framed or unframed.

ABOUT THE PAINTING
Millais co-founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood in 1848 and became one of the most celebrated painters of Victorian Britain. Here he paints Joan at the moment of her calling. A teenage girl kneels in half armour and chain mail over a red skirt, her helmet set aside, a heavy sword gripped in both hands. She looks up, listening to the voices of Saints Michael, Catherine and Margaret, who tell her to lead France against the English. Millais leaves the background bare, so nothing competes with her face. When the painting went on show at the Royal Academy in 1865, critics praised his steel armour. The Times said the armour was so well painted it pulled attention from her face. It remains in a private collection.

THE LOOK
Polished steel, deep crimson and dark shadow. Devout, fierce and still. Suits a bedroom, study, hallway or prayer corner.

REAL ART, NOT AI
Every print in our shop starts with a real painting from a museum collection or public archive. We research each work and prepare the file for print. We never sell AI-generated art.

THE PRINT
A fine art reproduction of the original painting on 240gsm matte paper. Rich colour, no glare.

Sizes: A5, A4, A3, A2, A1, plus 12x16, 18x24 and 24x36 inches. Custom sizes on request. Frames: black, white or oak, or unframed.

Printed locally in the UK, Europe, the US, Canada and Australia, at the location closest to you. Free tracked shipping, no customs fees.

Please note: each print is reproduced from a museum photograph of the original painting. Larger sizes show the canvas weave, brushwork and age cracks up close, details not visible in these photos or smaller prints. Like the painting itself, it is best viewed from a short distance.
