DESCRIPTION
Joan of Arc by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, 1882, printed as a Pre-Raphaelite portrait poster on 240gsm matte paper. Sizes A5 to A1 and 12x16 to 24x36 inches, framed or unframed.

ABOUT THE PAINTING
Rossetti was a poet and painter, and in 1848 he co-founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood with Millais and Holman Hunt. He first painted Joan of Arc in 1863, kneeling to kiss her sword before battle. Nearly twenty years later, ill and near the end of his life, he returned to her. This small oil on panel shows Joan in armour, auburn hair loose, sword in hand, in the rich colour and close focus of his late style. It was the last painting he worked on. He finished it within a few days of his death on 9 April 1882. It now belongs to the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge.
