Is your art AI-generated?

No. Every print in our shop is a real painting by a named artist, taken from museum collections and public archives. We research each work and prepare the file for print by hand. We never sell AI-generated art.

Are these original paintings?

No. These are high quality reproduction prints on paper. The originals hang in museums or private collections around the world.

What paper and inks do you use?

We print on 240gsm matte paper with archival, fade-resistant inks. Matte paper reduces glare and gives the colours a soft, painterly finish.

What sizes do you do?

A5, A4, A3, A2 and A1, plus 12x16, 18x24 and 24x36 inches. Need another size to fit an existing frame? Message us and we'll make a custom print.

Will the whole painting fit my chosen size?

Old paintings rarely match modern paper sizes, so some sizes trim a little from the edges. Each listing tells you which sizes fit best. Message us before ordering if you want to check a crop.

Do your prints come framed?

You choose. Order unframed to use your own frame, or framed and ready to hang in black, white or oak.

How is my print packaged?

Unframed prints ship rolled in a sturdy postal tube. Framed prints ship flat and protected.

Where is my print made, and how much is shipping?

Shipping is free. We have printing partners in the UK, Europe, the US, Canada and Australia, and we print your order at the location closest to you. That means faster delivery and no long journey across the world. Printing and packaging takes 2 to 5 days max. After that, most orders arrive within 3 to 7 working days, with tracking on every order.

What if my print arrives damaged?

Send us photos as proof of damage and we'll send a free replacement.

Seller's description

DESCRIPTION
The Earl of Dalhousie by John Singer Sargent, 1900, printed as a portrait poster on 240gsm matte paper. Sizes A5 to A1 and 12x16 to 24x36 inches, framed or unframed.

ABOUT THE PAINTING
Arthur Ramsay, 14th Earl of Dalhousie, was 21 when Sargent painted him. The tenants of his Scottish estates paid for the portrait to mark his coming of age, and it went on show at the Royal Academy in May 1900. Sargent was the most sought-after portrait painter in the world at the time, and here he paints youth, wealth and ease: a young aristocrat in a dark suit, one hand on his hip, gazing out with cool confidence. Ten years earlier, Oscar Wilde had imagined a young nobleman whose portrait stays beautiful forever. This is the face readers picture. The painting has passed down the Dalhousie family ever since. In 2020 the UK government placed a temporary export ban on it, valuing it at £7.5 million.

THE LOOK
Deep black, warm skin tones and soft grey stone. Elegant, cool and self-assured. Suits a study, library, hallway or gallery wall.
