DESCRIPTION
Saint Francis by Federico Barocci, around 1600 to 1604, printed as an Old Master religious poster on 240gsm matte paper. Sizes A5 to A1 and 12x16 to 24x36 inches, framed or unframed.

ABOUT THE PAINTING
Barocci worked in Urbino and ranks among the key painters of late 16th century Italy. His soft colour and deep feeling paved the way for the Baroque. He was close to the Capuchin friars, and he likely painted this for a friar or a supporter of the Franciscan order. Francis kneels alone in a rocky grotto on Mount La Verna, the place where he received the stigmata. He wears his brown habit and rope belt, with a book and crucifix before him. Barocci paints the wounds as nails piercing his hands, following the earliest Franciscan accounts. It hangs in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

THE LOOK
Warm browns, soft ochre and deep shadow. Quiet, prayerful and intimate. Suits a study, bedroom, prayer corner or gallery wall.

THE PRINT
A fine art reproduction of the original painting on 240gsm matte paper. Rich colour, no glare.

Sizes: A5, A4, A3, A2, A1, plus 12x16, 18x24 and 24x36 inches. Custom sizes on request. Frames: black, white or oak, or unframed.

Printed locally in the UK, Europe, the US, Canada and Australia, at the location closest to you. Free tracked shipping, no customs fees.

Please note: each print is reproduced from a museum photograph of the original painting. Larger sizes show the canvas weave, brushwork and age cracks up close, details not visible in these photos or smaller prints. Like the painting itself, it is best viewed from a short distance.
