THE PLANTS
Christmas fern, bleeding heart, hosta, wild columbine, coral bells, foamflower, Solomon's seal, astilbe, brunnera 'Jack Frost', Lenten rose, Japanese forest grass, autumn fern, wild geranium, wild ginger.

HONEST NOTES
Hosta is a deer favorite, so the plan uses only one or two and tells you what to use instead in deer country. Hosta and hellebore are toxic to dogs and cats (ASPCA). Bleeding heart goes dormant in midsummer, which is why it sits behind ferns and astilbe. Autumn fern is hardy from zone 6b; the plan gives a swap for colder gardens.
