This is the choker for the evening that is meant to be noticed. A band of sheer black lace sits flat and soft against the skin, and along its whole lower edge hangs a row of deep red faceted crystal drops, each one on its own silver tone loop so it moves independently — a small flicker of red every time you turn your head.

At the throat sits the centerpiece: an oval cabochon of warm copper brown, shot through with glitter like embers, held in an ornate silver tone frame with a scalloped, filigree-style edge. Below it a single faceted red teardrop hangs in a smooth bezel setting, falling a little lower than the rest of the drops so the eye lands there first.

It is Victorian in its bones — the lace collar, the cameo-style oval, the mourning-jewelry proportions — and vampire in its color. Dark romantic without being costume.

Symbolism
After the Terror in 1790s Paris, survivors held "victims' balls" where the women wore a single red ribbon tied around the throat — a mark of the blade, worn as defiance. Every red choker since carries a little of that: the throat as the place you refuse to be afraid. Black lace with a row of red drops is that gesture, made into jewelry.
