The band is soft black velvet that sits close at the throat, and at its center a silver tone crescent moon holds a swirl of deep purple that shifts toward violet as it moves. From the band, dark metal chains fall in draped swags on either side, framing the neckline before two longer strands drop to the pendants.

The upper pendant is an abstract starburst - a cluster of sharp four-pointed stars. The longer one is a north star: a purple stone at the center, surrounded by pointed celestial rays, with a long spike falling below. Layered together it reads as a whole night sky at the throat, yet the piece stays lightweight and easy to wear.

Celestial and gothic at once - the velvet and the dark chains keep the moon and stars from ever looking sweet.

Symbolism
Before the compass, sailors steered by the lodestar - the one star in the northern sky that holds still while every other star wheels around it. Lode is an old English word for way; the lodestar was simply the way-star. The moon above it here does the opposite, changing its face every night of the month. This piece carries both: the part of you that keeps changing, and the one fixed point you steer by.
