Seller's description

DESCRIPTION
Forest Ghost by László Mednyánszky, painted in the 1890s, printed as a dark forest poster on 240gsm matte paper. Sizes A5 to A1 and 12x16 to 24x36 inches, framed or unframed.

ABOUT THE PAINTING
Mednyánszky, a Hungarian baron, is one of the most mysterious figures in the country's art. He called himself a painter-philosopher and spent long spells alone, wandering the forests around his family estate at Strážky in what is now Slovakia. Most of his work records real landscapes and the poor people who lived in them. Forest Ghost is different. The gallery files it as an imaginative composition: a spirit glimpsed among the trees, half there and half not. He painted it in oil on card during the 1890s, and it now belongs to the Slovak National Gallery, which also runs his old family home as a museum.

THE LOOK
Murky greens, smoky greys and a pale, ghostly glow. Eerie and quiet. Suits a hallway, bedroom, study or gothic gallery wall.

THE PRINT
A fine art reproduction of the original painting on 240gsm matte paper. Rich colour, no glare.

Sizes: A5, A4, A3, A2, A1, plus 12x16, 18x24 and 24x36 inches. Custom sizes on request. Frames: black, white or oak, or unframed.

Printed locally in the UK, Europe, the US, Canada and Australia, at the location closest to you. Free tracked shipping, no customs fees.

Please note: each print is reproduced from a museum photograph of the original painting. Larger sizes show the canvas weave, brushwork and age cracks up close, details not visible in these photos or smaller prints. Like the painting itself, it is best viewed from a short distance.
