Seller's description

DESCRIPTION
Jason and Medea by John William Waterhouse, 1907, printed as a Pre-Raphaelite mythology poster on 240gsm matte paper. Sizes A5 to A1 and 12x16 to 24x36 inches, framed or unframed.

ABOUT THE PAINTING
Waterhouse painted Jason and Medea in 1907, and the original remains in a private collection. Jason has come to Colchis to take the Golden Fleece, guarded by a dragon who never sleeps. Medea, the king's daughter and a sorceress, falls for him and brews a potion to put the dragon to sleep. Waterhouse shows her at work. She pours into a golden chalice as a flame burns in a tripod before her, and a toad sits on the stone floor. Her dress carries the symbols of her magic. Jason stands behind her, armed and uneasy, waiting. Greek myth tells what comes after: the fleece won, then betrayal and revenge.

THE LOOK
Deep red, gold and shadowed stone, with firelight on Medea's face. Rich and brooding. Suits a bedroom, study, reading nook or gallery wall.

THE PRINT
A fine art reproduction of the original painting on 240gsm matte paper. Rich colour, no glare.

Sizes: A5, A4, A3, A2, A1, plus 12x16, 18x24 and 24x36 inches. Custom sizes on request. Frames: black, white or oak, or unframed.

Printed locally in the UK, Europe, the US, Canada and Australia, at the location closest to you. Free tracked shipping, no customs fees.

Please note: each print is reproduced from a museum photograph of the original painting. Larger sizes show the canvas weave, brushwork and age cracks up close, details not visible in these photos or smaller prints. Like the painting itself, it is best viewed from a short distance.
