Warm ivory, deep green and oversized EVO II typography give the artwork presence across a room. The blue-black 190 E and its technical details invite a closer look. Above a desk or in a garage lounge, it's a conversation piece for anyone who knows what that name means.

The subject is the 1990 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II, a road-going homologation model developed for touring-car competition. Its sixteen-valve engine, widened arches and tall rear wing made it a defining Mercedes-Benz. The Evolution II gave the compact W201 saloon an unmistakable motorsport silhouette.

Every car was a drawing before it was a car. We start with the finished car and draw it back to that first decision, until the proportion is honest and the stance is right and you would know it from across the room without a badge.
