Warm ochre, ivory diagonals and oversized M1 typography give the artwork presence across a room. The red M1 and its angular bodywork invite a closer look. Above a desk or in a garage lounge, it's a conversation piece for anyone who knows what those two characters mean.

The subject is the 1978 M1 E26, developed by BMW Motorsport with racing in mind. Its unmistakable wedge, mid-mounted 3.5-litre straight-six and low stance made it a defining BMW. The road car was presented at the Paris Motor Show in 1978.

Every car was a drawing before it was a car. We start with the finished car and draw it back to that first decision, until the proportion is honest and the stance is right and you would know it from across the room without a badge.
