A silver car, a big red sun and warm cream paper give the artwork the calm of a 1950s advertising poster and presence across a room. The 300 SL, both doors raised like wings, invites a closer look. Above a desk or in a garage lounge, it's a conversation piece for anyone who knows what that name means.

The subject is the 1955 300 SL coupe, the W198, seen dead-on with its gullwing doors open. Its 3.0-litre straight-six was among the first production engines with direct fuel injection, and its tubular spaceframe with high sills is the reason the doors open upwards. About 1,400 coupes were built from 1954 to 1957.

Every car was a drawing before it was a car. We start with the finished car and draw it back to that first decision, until the proportion is honest and the stance is right and you would know it from across the room without a badge.

FRAMED
Solid wood classic frame, satin-laminated, 20 mm face, 22 mm deep, Perspex glazing, no mount. Black, white, natural oak, brown, dark grey, light grey, antique silver or antique gold. Arrives assembled with the hanger fitted, ready to hang, flat in a rigid box with the corners protected. Framed outer size is the print size plus about 1.5 cm on each side.

UNFRAMED
Shipped rolled in a rigid tube.
