Our program calculates the phase of the Moon at that very moment: how much of it was lit, its phase name, and which side was lit as seen from that place. In the southern hemisphere the Moon appears upside down compared with the north, so the lit side is on the other side – your poster shows it the way it really looked from your town.

• Positions: JPL ephemeris DE421 via Skyfield. Every poster is checked automatically against an independent calculation (Meeus, Astronomical Algorithms) before you receive it: the printed percentage must be within 1 percentage point, and the phase name and the lit side must match.
