DESCRIPTION
Memento Mori, "To This Favour" by William Michael Harnett, 1879, printed as a vanitas still life poster on 240gsm matte paper. Sizes A5 to A1 and 12x16 to 24x36 inches, framed or unframed.

ABOUT THE PAINTING
Harnett, an American painter famous for trompe l'oeil still lifes, painted this in 1879. The original hangs in the Cleveland Museum of Art. A skull rests on a book labelled Shakespeare Tragedies. Beside it stand a candle burnt to a stub and a spent hourglass. Old books lie stacked and tumbling across the table, one cover hanging loose by a thread. The title comes from Hamlet, holding Yorick's skull: tell my lady to paint her face an inch thick, "to this favour she must come." Every object says the same thing. Time runs out for everyone.

THE LOOK
Warm browns, bone white and muted green. Quiet, bookish and dark. Suits a study, library, reading nook or gothic gallery wall.

THE PRINT
A fine art reproduction of the original painting on 240gsm matte paper. Rich colour, no glare.

Sizes: A5, A4, A3, A2, A1, plus 12x16, 18x24 and 24x36 inches. Custom sizes on request. Frames: black, white or oak, or unframed.

Printed locally in the UK, Europe, the US, Canada and Australia, at the location closest to you. Free tracked shipping, no customs fees.

Please note: each print is reproduced from a museum photograph of the original painting. Larger sizes show the canvas weave, brushwork and age cracks up close, details not visible in these photos or smaller prints. Like the painting itself, it is best viewed from a short distance.
