WHY THESE ARE DIFFERENT
- Nothing falls out. Every design was checked by computer at every size it comes in, measured exactly on the drawing at print size: the pumpkin wall stays in one piece (pupils and letter centers are held by bridges), every wall of pumpkin is at least 0.4 in wide (0.5 in on Easy designs), teeth and fangs included, and every piece is at least 0.45 in across at its narrowest (0.6 in on Easy), so a pumpkin saw fits. A design or size that fails is not in the pack.
- Up to 3 sizes, each checked on its own. Large (7.5 in guide, pumpkins about 9 in across or larger), Medium (6 in guide, about 7 to 9 in) and Small (4.5 in guide, about 5 to 6 in). Every design comes in Large, 44 in Medium and 20 in Small: where a detailed design or a word would be too fine for a smaller pumpkin, we leave that size out and its page says so. Where a smaller size is simplified (a brow or a star left out), its page names what changed.
- Pick your level. 22 Easy designs with big simple pieces for a first pumpkin, 24 Medium, 9 Advanced. The level, the carving time and the number of pieces are printed on every page.
- A stencil alphabet. Big letters (4.5 in) to carve one letter per pumpkin and spell a name along the porch steps; small letters (2.5 in) to put a short word or a house number on one big pumpkin. Cut the boxes out and butt them together: the spacing is built in.

HOW IT WORKS
Cut the lid and scoop the pumpkin, print at 100% on plain paper, tape the stencil on, poke holes along every black edge with a pin, lift the paper off and saw dot to dot. Black is cut away; white is pumpkin. Cut the smallest pieces first and the biggest last.

A note on real pumpkins: a stencil is a guide. Every pumpkin is a different shape, and every carver a different hand. The minimums above are checked on the drawing at print size and are generous on purpose; how the pumpkin behaves still depends on its wall and how gently the pieces are pushed out. A grown-up does the carving; kids draw, scoop and poke the dots.

- Which size for my pumpkin? Measure the flattest face straight across: Large for pumpkins about 9 in across or larger, Medium for about 7 to 9 in, Small for about 5 to 6 in. Tall or narrow pumpkin: go one size down.
- Is it too detailed for my kids? Start with the 22 Easy designs: big pieces, wide walls and short cuts. The level is printed on every page and in the index.
- How do I get the stencil onto the pumpkin? Tape the printed page on, prick the outline with a pin, lift the paper off and saw along the dots. Start Here shows it in 4 steps.
- Will a name fit on my pumpkin? The alphabet page lists the width of every small letter: add them up and compare with your pumpkin. Or carve one big letter per pumpkin.
- Do I need a carving kit? A pumpkin saw (the small serrated saw from any carving kit), a pin and masking tape.
- Can I sell carved pumpkins from these? No. The license covers one household or one classroom or co-op, not selling carved pumpkins or products made from the designs.
