Checkmate Washable Rug, Checkerboard Vintage Medallion Style Rug in Red, Teal and Saffron

An ornate medallion in red, teal and saffron, its border worn through at the edges to a black and cream checkerboard.

A traditional style field: a lobed medallion in madder red and teal, saffron corners full of palmettes, a navy border of small flowers. Then it wore through. At two corners and down one side the rug gives way to a black and cream checkerboard, with the odd dusty-pink square, as if another floor were showing underneath.

The checks and the worn edges are part of the design; the rug arrives new. It holds its own in a plain room: grey concrete, white walls, one black chair.

• 130 g/m² printed polyester face fabric
• 4–5 mm foam
• 700 g cotton backing

CARE
Machine washable at 30 °C (86 °F) on a gentle/delicate cycle. Hand washing is also fine.
