Gigantic red wood-type letters, heavy black rules and five blue stars in the manner of a 1960s letterpress bill poster give the artwork presence across a room. The red GT40, low and long across the bottom, invites a closer look. Above a desk or in a garage lounge, it's a conversation piece for anyone who knows what that name means.

The subject is a 1967 GT40 Mk I in Carmen Red, a road car with Borrani wire wheels and FORD letters on the nose. Its name comes from its height of 40 inches, and GT40s won Le Mans four years in a row, from 1966 to 1969.

Every car was a drawing before it was a car. We start with the finished car and draw it back to that first decision, until the proportion is honest and the stance is right and you would know it from across the room without a badge.
