Giant cracked road-marking letters, dashed lane lines, a turning arrow and a red and white kerb on sunlit asphalt, all seen from straight above, give the artwork presence across a room. The Cream Yellow T-5R estate, seen from high above its front corner, invites a closer look. Above a desk or in a garage lounge, it's a conversation piece for anyone who knows what that name means.

The subject is a 1995 850 T-5R estate in Cream Yellow on its 17-inch five-spoke wheels, a right-hand-drive car. Porsche helped tune its turbocharged 2.3-litre five-cylinder, and 6,964 T-5Rs were built, 2,537 of them in Cream Yellow.

Every car was a drawing before it was a car. We start with the finished car and draw it back to that first decision, until the proportion is honest and the stance is right and you would know it from across the room without a badge.
