A cobalt-blue field, a huge cream roundel carrying the number 356 in black and Speedster written in silver script across the top give the artwork presence across a room. The silver Speedster, low in the lower half and seen from its front corner with the top down, invites a closer look. Above a desk or in a garage lounge, it's a conversation piece for anyone who knows what that name means.

The subject is a 1956 356 A 1600 Speedster by Reutter in silver metallic over a black interior with a black top, a restored left-hand-drive car. The Speedster arrived in late 1954 after the American importer Max Hoffman advised Porsche that a lower-cost, spartan open car could sell, Reutter built the steel bodies, and 4,854 were made in all.

Every car was a drawing before it was a car. We start with the finished car and draw it back to that first decision, until the proportion is honest and the stance is right and you would know it from across the room without a badge.
