A sunset sky over a coastal headland, 911 Carrera RS lettered in white across the top and a wet road full of reflected light give the artwork presence across a room. The Guards Red RS, low and seen from its front corner, invites a closer look. Above a desk or in a garage lounge, it's a conversation piece for anyone who knows what that name means.

The subject is a 1992 911 Carrera RS (964) in Guards Red over a black interior. The RS is the lightweight 964, with a 3.6-litre air-cooled flat-six making 260 PS, a close-ratio five-speed gearbox and a lightweight flywheel, and the 964 generation was built from 1989 to 1994.

Every car was a drawing before it was a car. We start with the finished car and draw it back to that first decision, until the proportion is honest and the stance is right and you would know it from across the room without a badge.
