Printing points, checked on this copy:
• Title page imprint reads CHICAGO: M. A. DONOHUE & Co. — a cheap-reprint house, not the original publisher
• True first was Cassell & Company, London, 1887; this is a later American reprint
• No date and no copyright/printing statement present; Donohue reprints were undated
• Publisher ad leaves (407-429 and 415 Dearborn St.) place this issue c.1900-1915
• Decorated endpapers and pictorial cover are reprint-series dress, not first-edition features
