Highlights

Misophonia Book for Kids: a printable picture book (ages 5 to 9) that helps children and grown-ups talk about sound sensitivity, big feelings and self-regulation.

For the moment a child says "that sound is too much" and nobody has the words. Read it aloud together, then use it as a social-story style conversation starter at home, in a calm down corner or at school.

A 32-page picture book that gives children and the adults who love them a gentle way to talk about misophonia, the strong, sudden reaction some people have to particular sounds such as chewing, tapping or sniffing.

In the story, the reaction is pictured as a "dragon": a protective, slightly over-keen guardian that is trying to keep the child safe. The child in the story is not named (they are simply "me"), and the dragon's name is left blank so each child can choose their own and make the dragon theirs.

It is written to be read aloud together, in a few sittings or in one cuddle, and to start a conversation: What does my dragon notice? What does it want? What could I tell a grown-up?
