Ancient Armor | Original Fossil Photography

A little piece of Earth’s ancient history, captured through my lens.

During a paleontological field expedition in southern Utah, I had the opportunity to explore the Chinle Formation, a geological formation preserving evidence of life from the Late Triassic Period, more than 200 million years ago.

This photograph captures what appears to be fragments of fossilized armor, known as osteoderms. These bony plates formed part of the protective armor of certain prehistoric animals.

What I love most about paleontology is that even the smallest fragments can tell us something about the animals that lived millions of years before us. Sometimes, the most fascinating discoveries are the ones you might walk right past.

As a biology student, aspiring paleontologist, and nature photographer, I hope my photography inspires others to look a little closer at the natural world and the history beneath our feet.
