The lights went out for one minute. When they came back on, one guest was dead, and nobody had moved.

By the summer of 1931, a few of Lord Ashcombe's guests could solve his Friday murder games before the coffee came around, and asked for something harder. So on Wednesday nights his secretary, Miss Pell, laid a second table: large plans, and statements that gave almost nothing away. This is her notebook of those twelve nights, from June to the end of August.

Each case is a floor plan of the house, with 8 suspects and statements about where they stood, every one of them true. Place one suspect in every row and every column. The one suspect in the room with the body is the murderer. There are no numbers to fill in: it is called murder sudoku because of that one rule.

HOW IT WAS MADE
The puzzles, the suspects' statements and the step-by-step solutions are produced by the author's own puzzle generator, which is conventional software, not AI, and every case was checked by a solver that reasons the way a person does. The illustrations (portraits, furniture and floors) were generated with PixelLab, then retouched to one house style and composed into each floor plan by the author. The writing around the puzzles (the story, the rules, the case titles and the phrasing of the hints and solutions) was drafted with AI assistance and edited by the author.
